IWMD

Today marks International Workers Memorial Day, where trade unionists around the world remember those who have lost their lives at work, or from work-related injury and diseases, and renew our efforts to organise collectively to prevent more deaths, injuries and disease as a result of work.

This year IWMD is particularly poignant because of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, where many frontline health and care workers are risking their own safety to help others.

Jersey’s trade unions are playing a fundamental role in representing their members who are concerned with practices on the frontline and access to PPE, whilst Reform Jersey’s political representatives continue to provide a voice for these concerns in the States Assembly. We must ensure that no worker in Jersey is exposed to any unnecessary risk because of a lack of support, equipment or funding.

Reform Jersey asks Islanders to use today to mark the sacrifice made by workers and to pay tribute to the efforts made by so many workers during the pandemic, to remember those around the world who have sadly lost their lives, and to thank all those who continue to do vital work at great risk.
