About Me
It’s been a busy four years since I was last elected.
I’ve met many town residents at my constituency meetings
at the Town Hall and if re-elected I’ll continue to be there every Monday.
Although Jersey born, I’ve lived in other countries.
I started and ran several businesses and have worked as a company director.
I am fortunate to have five lovely children and two grand children
While my own children were young, I was also a foster carer.
This breadth of knowledge and experience helps guide my decisions
I am the Chair of the Children, Education, and Home Affairs scrutiny panel. One of our main works was the Online Harms review; Jersey has fallen behind in its protection of children online, and this must be put right. I also led my panel to complete work on Apprenticeships and Lifelong Learning. I will do all I can to prioritise these matters. It’s essential that everyone has the opportunity to improve their skills.
I was Vice Chair of the Assisted Dying Review Panel, and we focused on ensuring thorough safeguarding through the whole process, and I will make sure it’s kept to the highest standards.
I worked as Vice Chair of the Parish and Government Review Panel which has given me special insight to how government and parishes could work better together and be more cost-effective. This knowledge will help me find ways to cut unnecessary public spending.
To address Jersey’s high cost of living, I’ve supported the removal of GST from food, and limits on rent increases. I supported free GP visits for children, and the extension of funded nursery care.
I brought an amendment to abolish mortgage interest tax relief for landlords’ buy to let mortgages. Sadly, most States Members voted against, even though it would have brought back £2 million per year to the States coffers. I will bring this back again to the States Assembly.
My Priorities
- I will ensure the work I led with my scrutiny panel’s Online Harms review continues, to keep our children safe.
- I will ensure the recommendations are actioned from the Apprenticeships and Lifelong Learning review which I led.
- I will continue to support all efforts to alleviate Jersey’s high cost of living
- I brought the successful proposition for a lifetime ban on drivers who kill or seriously injure someone on the roads and will ensure the law changes are lodged.
- I will continue to work collaboratively with my Reform Jersey colleagues and other States Members to ensure good outcomes
