I am standing to be your deputy as I want to be a voice for working people in making our community just, equal, and sustainable for everyone.
I believe the young people of this island have had their voices under-represented for too long. We are losing too many knowledgeable and skilful minds due to a cost-of-living crisis and lack of opportunity.
In addition families, working and retired people are feeling the pinch as the ever-rising cost of housing, food, and transport has become a burden for everyone.
I pledge to address these key concerns to make Jersey an attractive place to live, work, and do business for all. Cost of living
I will work with my Reform Jersey colleagues to continue to make home ownership an achievable goal for everyone. We will look out for the rights of tenants and make sure families and people with mobility needs are living in appropriate and assessable accommodation.
We will also look to reduce the tax burden on working people by reducing marginal rate and making sure the highest earners pay a fair share.
I embrace Jersey becoming an increasingly digital society and reap the economic and productivity benefits of artificial intelligence. However, we need to make sure no-one is left behind. We should promote lifelong learning by making grants and qualifications available to up-skill our workforce. We should also increase the availability of apprenticeships and courses that can be taught on island so our students don’t have to leave the island to get the best start to their working lives.
I’ve spoken to many people who feel out of touch with their parish and community. We should encourage the use of community spaces for clubs, societies, and sports to fight loneliness and build pride in our parish. I will also work to deliver a new youth centre at Le Squez.
We should nurture our islands cultural heritage and arts scene and encourage the creativity and entrepreneurship of islanders.
I will also work to deliver sustainable and safe transport infrastructure.
Health
Too many people have been let down by long wait times for mental health referrals and medical procedures. Reducing this will be a key priority.
We will also look to expand the Pension Plus Scheme to allow more pensioners to access dental and optical care.
My core belief is that Jersey should be an equal, equitable, and exciting place for everyone. I hope you put your trust in me and my Reform Jersey colleagues on June 7th.
