Priorities

This election is our opportunity to put Jersey back on a path towards reaching its potential and restoring hope that a happy and prosperous life can be built here, once again.

Whilst there is so much to be proud of in Jersey,for many years the Island has felt like it has been experiencing a managed decline, rather than offer the place of opportunity that once defined life here. Successive governments have tinkered around the edges but not addressed the structural issues that have led to economic stagnation, flatlining living standards and unsustainable public finances.

Most worryingly, many young people have lost confidence in Jersey and are leaving to seek better lives elsewhere.

I am running for election as Senator because I recognise that this needs to change. The next government must turn the tide. Jersey needs a group of elected politicians who are united around a clear vision to deliver on a government agenda that tackles the issues we are facing. A group of disparate politicians with a siloed mentality will not be able to achieve this, as history shows.

In this term of office, Reform Jersey has shown what can be done when a well-organised group comes together and puts Jersey first. We have used our influence in the States Assembly responsibly, risen above divisive personality politics and delivered much of our previous manifesto.

Whether you are a young person with your whole life ahead of you, a growing family or a couple looking forward to a well-earned retirement,we are on your side.

If elected, I will play whatever part I can in turning the tide and making Jersey once again a place of hope and opportunity for all.

My record

In my time in politics, I believe I have shown myself to be an effective politician, a decisive Minister and capable leader of a team that is unified and constructive. I have never been afraid to challenge vested interests in order to get the right results for the majority of Islanders.

As Minister for Housing, in just two years I managed to completely shift the dialogue on Jersey’s housing crisis. There is still more to be done, but I am proud that I was able to:

• Establish the popular ‘First Step’ scheme for first timebuyers
• Secure the delivery of hundreds of new homes for first time buyers and retired people
• Pass a new law to protect the 45% of Islanders who rent their homes

For the last 6 years, I have held a weekly drop-in surgery at a café in town, where many Islanders have come to both seek advice and offer it. Being accessible to Islanders is one of my favourite parts of the job.

I have never been marked ‘en défaut’ for missing a States sitting.
